Back for round two

In recent years, the girls’ basketball program has been on a hot streak. With three consecutive regional championships and, as of last year, the first sectional championship in over 30 years, girls basketball has set the expectations high on this years returning record-breaking group of players.

“I don’t think there is any added pressure…we have won as the underdogs and we have won as the favorites,” said head coach Jamie Watson. “We just have to focus on ourselves and not worry about what other expect from us.”

The Pirates are returning two junior and senior starters, as well as adding two freshmen and three more juniors to the lineup. “We have a lot of talent this year. We definitely won’t have a problem making up for the empty spots that we we lost from the graduated players,” said senior Katie Furlong.

With the talented  newcomers and multiple players with postseason experience, the girls are hoping to continue their success in the upcoming season. “It’s exciting to be a part of such a solid program,” said junior Sydney Schuler, “If we just work and play like we have in the past I think we’ll be just fine.”
