Jv Football wraps up successful season

The Galena Pirate JV Football team finished the season with a record of 7 wins and 2 losses.   The Pirates were confident going into the season. They started working extremely hard throughout the summer with both strength and conditioning being major components  leading into the fall practice season.

Many freshman stepped up and filled important roles to complete the roster for the team. These players seemed to work well together and really focus on being a solid team.  Although it may be intimidating playing with older players, the freshman helped the lead the team to a successful season. “I learned so much from the older players,” said Brady Schemehorn ‘22. “They constantly pushed me to get better each day.”

This season was a great learning experience for the players who will be on varsity next year. It gave these maturing players a chance to solidify their positions and have another year of experience under their belts.  Will Nack, cornerback for the Pirates, said, “I am really proud of all my teammates and can’t wait for the upcoming varsity season.”

The JV team rounded out their season with a win over DuPec.  Although DuPec was the odds on favorite to walk a way with the victory, the Pirates played hard and pulled out a win. “Ending the season with a win will give us positive hopes for next year” said Payton LuGrain.  They excelled in every area of the game and demonstrated their growth as a team over this season. The players had excellent communication both on and off the field, which was an aspect that helped them accomplish their goals.

This Pirate team shows good potential to work well together again when they serve the varsity team as juniors and seniors. During the off season, these young men will continue to work hard on the field and in the weight room to prepare for the 2019 football season.
