Galena boys basketball takes a backseat to Southwestern

On November 27 the Varsity Galena Boys Basketball Team hosted the Southwestern Wildcats from Hazel Green.. Although the game was close, Galena was always just a little bit too far behind. The final score was Galena with 46 points and Southwestern with 58 points.

In the first quarter Galena started out slow and scored 6 points, while Southwestern pulled away and scored a hefty 14 points. Sam Hesselbacher ‘21, Conner Einsweiler ‘19 and Tyler Moran ‘19 split those 6 points evenly.

The Pirates started to come back in the second quarter scoring 10 more points. Einsweiler shot 2 two pointers and made a freethrow, while Evan Kruse ‘19 made a three pointer and a two point shot. Southwestern kept up by scoring 11 more points to make the halftime score 16 to 25.

By the third quarter Galena was hitting it hard and scored 12 points, but Southwestern kept up with 11 points. Moran got his head in the game and came through with 2 two point shots.

In the final quarter, Kruse went absolutely crazy and scored 11 points all on his own. Galena tried to take the lead by scoring 18 points in their best quarter of the game. However, Southwestern also had their best quarter with 22 points.

The Pirates take on the East Dubuque Warriors at East Dubuque on Thursday, November 29.
