Pirates fall late in a close game

The Galena Pirates traveled far last Friday, April 5 to take on the Pecatonica Indians. After a scoreless first inning, the Indians went up three runs. However these were quickly answered by three runs from the Pirates and then in the inning after the Pirates scored one more and the held the Indians to their three runs.

Henry Anderson ‘20 had one hit and two walks at the plate with zero strikeouts. In addition to that he recorded four stolen bases and five fly balls caught. “It was my first game that somebody actually hit a ball to me, so it felt really good.” said Anderson, “ I wish we could have won”.

On the mound for the night was Cody Allendorf, who pitched three and two third innings. He had seven strikeouts in his effort for the Pirates. “They were a decent team, but we just were getting unlucky,” said Allendorf, “they were hitting the gaps and ran the bases well.”

After going up early in the game 4-0, the Pirates faltered and the Indians took advantage over them.

Ultimately, the Indians went on a 6-0 run in the last two and a half innings. The Pirates lost 9-4 after a close start to the game.

The next game the Pirates play in a match versus West Carroll in Thompson. The Pirates record moves to 2-4, having beaten Pearl City and Orangeville.
