Starting strong, finishing stronger

The Galena / East Dubuque / River Ridge girls track team competed at the IHSA Sectionals on Thursday, May 9. Galena girls placed, despite the tough competition.

Senior Sammi Digman placed sixth, with a time of  51.25 seconds for the 300 meter hurdles. Only the first and second go to state, but Digman ‘19 will continue her track career in college at St. Norbert. “Overall this year has given me a lot of opportunities to get stronger and better. I’m a little disappointed I didn’t advance to state, but I still have four more years to improve. I think this was my best year attacking the hurdles though,” said Digman ‘19.

Kate Moran ‘21 fell just short of the top ten, by placing twelth for the 400 meter dash. Her time was a 1:07.44. Moran ‘21 said, “I think it went pretty well, there was definitely a lot more competition there than we have seen all year. It was such a cool experience.”

Freshman Sydney Einsweiler competed at the 3200 meter. She was close to placing, but still finished the season out strong and made strides of improvements.

Congratulations to the girls track and all spring sports on their success this season!
