Junior orator Jovian Pham is this week’s Pirate Competitor of the Week sponsored by Galena Culver’s and the Galena Gazette. At Saturday’s DeKalb virtual speech contest, Jovian competed against 79 students from northern Illinois in the Radio Speaking Category. His prelim scores were good enough to qualify him for the novice final, and out of 20 students who were also competing in speech for the first time, Jovian placed 7th.  According to speech coach Susan Bookless, “I’m very proud of Jovian. This is a great result for his first tournament ever. He has a great Radio voice, and I’m excited to see what he can achieve this year!”  Jovian was honored with a gift basket from the Galena Culver’s, as well as a newspaper courtesy of the Galena Gazette.
