Pirate Competitor of the Week – March 28, 2022:
Freshman Ava Hahn is this week’s Pirate Competitor of the Week sponsored by Galena Culver’s and the Galena Gazette.  On March 16, in her first career varsity start, Ava threw a 15 strikeout no-hitter vs Milledgeville.  The following day, Ava had another 13 strikeouts in Galena’s 9-4 win at Polo.  She also went 4 for 5 at the plate with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s.  According to coach Dusty Berning, “Ava has played a large role in our 2-0 start this season.  She works hard year-round at softball and it shows.  I expect big things from her this season with both her pitching and hitting.”  Ava was honored with a gift basket from the Galena Culver’s, as well as a newspaper courtesy of the Galena Gazette.

Also Nominated:
8th-grade Quiz Bowl competitor Liliana Asta snagged 9 toss-ups at the Warren meet, and 10 toss-ups at the East Dubuque meet last week.  Coach Ashley Hoppenjan offered, “she is a leader during practices and meets that sets a great example for others.”
