The Tri-M Coffeehouse took place on Oct. 21 at Blaum Bros. Distillery, with many people attending to watch the students of GHS perform music pieces during the waning hours of the evening. The performers sang, played, and enjoyed snacks and apple cider with everyone attending the event. There was a wide variety of music performances, bringing much enjoyment to the crowd and fellow musicians!
The Tri-M Coffeehouse has been an event taking place in both the fall and winter for a couple years, bringing a new form of music performance to Galena. “The coffeehouse is a relaxed, informal concert that gives students the chance to share their musical talents. It’s a great opportunity for musicians to build confidence and showcase their artistry in a low-pressure environment,” said Lily Streich, Tri-M advisor and organizer of the event. With many people trying out public performances for the first time, the coffeehouse helped them perform with as little stress as possible and be able to enjoy themselves.
The coffeehouse was a great opportunity to have many students of GHS show off their musical talents-even if they had never done so before. “I was really glad about the amount of people that showed up, and it was cool to have so many performers this year, with some having never done this before,” said Liliana Asta ‘26. Asta performed “Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star and “I Can’t Get Started” by Ella Fitzgerald, doing vocals and guitar for both pieces.
The performance also allowed more people to get to know some students better. “It was really interesting to see some of these people that I didn’t think had musical talent show off what they could do. I liked that!” said Evon Main ‘27.
For the location, the event was held at Blaum Bros. Distillery, which helped to give the event a certain atmosphere. “The environment was so cozy! Blaum Bros. was a really good choice for a venue,” said Justin Lin ‘28. Lin was one of the many performers at the coffeehouse, performing Etude Op. 25, No. 9 and Prelude No. 17 by Chopin, giving an amazing performance on the piano. “It was very nice to see a large variety of young musicians perform at their best,” added Lin ‘28.
The coffeehouse also proved to be a great space to socialize with the performers and other crowd goers. “Socalizing with people and seeing them perform was really nice! Seeing a new side to the students was so interesting,” said Sofie Lin ‘27. Even the performers got to enjoy each other’s company. “Socalizing and listening to the music everyone had to perform was so much fun! Everyone was phenomenal and it was a fun night overall,” said Isabella Haugh ‘28. With so many people in attendance, the coffeehouse proved to be a very sociable evening.
Overall, the fall coffeehouse proved to be a rousing success, and Tri-M is already looking forward to future coffeehouses. “We should continue to get the word out to as many people as possible because it’s such a fun and unique event that our students put on,” said Streich. And if you found the Tri-M Coffeehouse to be interesting, feel free to come enjoy the wonderful sounds at the winter coffeehouse in February, where once again, the students will gather to make another music-filled evening for all to enjoy!
