JV matters

Losing all five starters last season’s conference championship team, the girls definitely had their hands full for this year.

“Working hard everyday in practice helped so much when it came to game time,” said freshman Morgan Wills.

The team’s original goal was to finish with a .500 season, and they ultimately came up short.  Starting with a rough start the Lady Pirates, they got their first victory  against Platteville. From then on, the team continuously proved to other teams in the conference, as well as to themselves, that they had potential to do well.

The team played their best game against Shullsburg.  “My favorite part of the season was winning against Shullsburg on my birthday,” says freshman Anna Walburg.  The Pirates crushed the Lady Miners with a score of 42-21.

“The girls gave all that they had at the very beginning of the game, knowing that they would be a challenge,” said head JV Coach Bauer.

This was the only game that the girls beat a team by double digits in, and all players played major minutes.

The final game was against Pearl City at Pearl City.  “We improved a lot. The last game wasn’t our best, shots wouldn’t fall. But, it was a lot better than the beginning of the season” said sophomore Lillie Anderson.Even though they were defeated, they still ended the season on a good note.

The Lady Pirates ended their season with a conference record of  7-14.
