Jumping to victory: Junior Mackenzie Muehleip ‘20 tips the ball at the game against the Orangeville Broncos. The Pirates won against the Broncos 58-38. Muehleip said, “I’m really excited for what this season holds. We are a young team and I think we have a lot of potential.”

The Pirates triumphed over the Orangeville Broncos on Friday, December 9th. The final score of the game was 58-38.

The Pirates started off strong right from the jump ball. Going into the second quarter of the game, the Pirates had a 13-0 shutout against the Broncos. The Pirates held the lead the entire game.

Because the Lady Pirates took care of business during the first three quarters, many of the non-starters got a good amount of play time. Everyone on the team got to see the court. Senior basketball player Anna Walburg ‘19 said, “I love being a part of the team. It was really cool to play on the court for a little while. Go Pirates!”

The lead scorer for the Pirates was Junior Sami Wasmund ‘20. Wasmund was on fire with a total of 25 points. Wasmund outscored all of the Broncos as well. “Our team did very well. We got off to a quick start right away,” said Wasmund. “It’s good to get the momentum early and keep it throughout the game.”

The Pirates are having a great season so far. Their record is 1-2 conference and 6-3 non conference. The Pirates will next face Durand at the Pearl City tournament on Tuesday, December 11th.
