The GHS girls golf team ended their era with a bang winning their meet that night and advancing to sectionals. The meet took place on September 21 as they won against Eastland. The seniors are happy with how the season went and couldn’t have asked for a better team. “Although my school golf career is over, I couldn’t be happier with how the season went and all the amazing relationships I created with my teammates the past years,” said Olivia Richardson.

The annual girls golf senior night took place on Tuesday, September 21. The following seniors were celebrated: Ava Miller, Natalie Stangl, Madeline Ries, Maddy Glasgow, Grace Hillard, Claire Martensen, Olivia Richardson, and Sydney Einsweiler.
The girls senior night consisted of a ceremony congratulating the following seniors of their accomplishments throughout their golf career. Following the ceremony, the girls played a good game of golf against Eastland. The girls took the victory that night on their home course with the score being 186 Galena and 314 Eastland. “I was very happy that we won against Eastland, especially since it was our last home meet ever and our senior night,” said Grace Hillard. “I knew from the start that from how our team had been shooting and that we would easily beat them. It was a superior feeling when we took the victory on our home course.”
Most of the girls have been competing in this sport since freshman year and have had many accomplishments throughout their high school career.
“It’s a very sad feeling that my last golf season is over but I’m really happy with how the season went,” said Maddy Glasgow. “I shot my best score this season as well as us making it to sectionals and getting to play there as a team was such a fun experience.”
As the season started to come to an end the girls prepared themselves for the postseason, which consisted of conference, regionals and sectionals. Wanting to end their high school golf career with a bang, the girls were determined to advance to sectionals. The seniors goal was met and the Galena Golf Team placed second in regionals advancing to sectionals that following Sunday.
“It was a really fun year overall,” said senior Madeline Ries. “It was a really cool experience to be one of the first Galena girls golf teams to make it this far, it was a great way to end my senior season!”
