As the weather begins to warm up and spring approaches, baseball season is officially getting underway. After months of waiting through the winter, players are finally back on the field practicing and preparing for the upcoming games.
The start of the season means practices focused on rebuilding skills and getting players back into game shape. Coaches spend time working with athletes on fundamentals like hitting, fielding, and teamwork while also figuring out the best lineup for the team. For many players, the return of baseball is also a chance to reconnect with teammates they might not see during other sports seasons. Mason Smith said his favorite part about the start of baseball season is “getting to see everyone again and just being back out on the field with the team.”
Team motivation also plays a big role as players prepare for the season. During practices and games, teammates and coaches help push each other to work harder and improve. Gus Nack explained that the people who motivate him the most are “Coach Hartman, Chip and Dale Senior because he keeps everyone focused and pushes us to be better.”
As practices continue and the first games approach, players are beginning to look ahead to the moments they are most excited about this season. Jaycob Benson said he is especially looking forward to “when the team really starts clicking together, and we’re playing our best baseball.”
While players may be excited about different moments throughout the season, the overall goal is improvement and growth as a team. Drew Koenigs said that a successful season would be “everyone getting better and the team improving every game.”
Along with improving as a team, players also have bigger goals they hope to achieve. Owen Hefel shared that the team’s goal for the season is to become “regional champs and make a strong run in the postseason.” As the season gets underway, players and coaches alike are hoping their preparation and teamwork will lead to success on the field. With determination and strong team chemistry, the baseball team is ready to take on the season and see what they can accomplish together.
