Galena Varsity Pirates scored nine runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat Warren/Stockton Varsity Warhawks 15-4 on Thursday.

Galena Varsity Pirates scored nine runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Owen Hefel singled, scoring two runs; Gus Nack doubled, scoring two runs; Bryce VanRaalte induced Jacob Loso to hit into a fielder’s choice, but two runs scored; Colten McCartney singled, scoring two runs; and Roman Romer singled, scoring one run.
Jaycob Benson earned the win for the Galena Varsity Pirates. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and four runs (three earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out six and walking two. Beau Janecke took the loss for Warren/Stockton Varsity Warhawks. The starter went two innings, surrendering 10 runs (eight earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking three.
Galena Varsity Pirates tallied nine hits in the game. Gus Nack and Drew Koenigs were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Galena Varsity Pirates while hitting back-to-back. Jacob Loso and Gus Nack each drove in three runs for the Galena Varsity Pirates. Eli Studtmann led the Galena Varsity Pirates with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting six walks for the game.
The Pirates play at home Saturday against Byron.
